New Member Focus: SSamzie Space, Korea |
- Location: near Hong-ik University area, the hotbed of art production and consumption in Seoul, also the main gathering spot for artists
- Purpose: originally launched to support and sponsor artists during the Asian financial crisis of 1998, it has become a composite-culture space promoting cutting-edge art in Korea as well as an incubator for new generation art
- Activities: year long artist artist in residence program for Korean artists, 3-month program for foreign artists and curators, exhibitions in three galleries, performances, open studios, artist talks, formal and informal gatherings of artists, critics and curators, lecture and internship program
- Funding: subsidized by SSamzie Co. Ltd, one of Korea's leading fashion and accessories company and grants from foundations
- From the Director: "SSamzie Space contributes to promotion of Korean art on the international level. In the [Facing Korea] exhibition in The Netherlands, over 50% of the were artists from SSamzie Space program. SSamzie Space also creates cross-generational dialogues. [Title Match], one of the annual exhibitions, presents a friendly rivalry between a senior avant-garde artist and younger generation artist, creating constructive relationships among generations."
